Playground Markings West Yorkshire – Stanley St Peter’s Primary School

We recently ran a competition through Facebook to give away a £3000 playground markings makeover, enabling a school or nursery to transform their outdoor provision completely free of charge.

The competition saw over 2000 entries throughout the UK with parents, teachers, PTA’s and governors all battling to win and transform their outdoor provision.

The winning school, thanks to an entry from a parent, Kath Rope came in the shape of Stanley St Peter’s Primary School from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Kath was “over the moon to have won for the children”, and passed us over to the Head Teacher Dr Sarah Trussler to work with her on a bespoke design.

Dr Trussler wanted to create a roadway area for the lower end of the school, something bright and colourful to encourage the teaching of road safety and awareness in the playground. Along with Uniplay’s stop, look and listen characters, we used thermoplastic school bus’, shops and garages to create an interactive roadway for the children to use with their bikes and trikes whilst gaining an understanding of staying safe on the roads outside of school.

Along with road safety, maths was something Dr Trussler was hoping to encourage outside of the classroom. We therefore looked at various maths markings to add to the scheme before settling on a maths maze, numbered shapes and a rocket hopscotch.

Thermoplastic playground markings are a fantastic way to encourage learning and physical activity outdoors. They are hard wearing with a guarantee of up to 4 years depending on ground condition. Uniplay offers a complete design service, not only creating tailored designs, but cutting and installing the material to provide a long lasting playground design.

The installation at Stanley St Peter’s was complete in 1 day, working around the schools break timetables in a safe and considerate manner.

Dr Sarah Trussler commented “The children love it and it has gone down well with parents, too.”

Well done to all at Stanley St Peter’s, we hope you enjoy your playground markings as much as we enjoyed creating them!
