Creating an inclusive and diverse playground for pupils of all ages and abilities to enjoy should be the focus of any school. At UniPlay we work with a large number of early years, primary and secondary schools, utilising our knowledge and understanding of playground markings to create bespoke experiences for all children.
Inclusivity means creating a playground which can be enjoyed by children all of abilities, including those with Special Education Needs (SEN). At UniPlay we have worked with a range of different schools, providing SEN markings for a range of requirements. Our knowledgeable team can also work alongside other providers of SEN playground equipment to provide a unique and inclusive experience for each child on the playground.
However, starting the process of creating an inclusive playground can be difficult. To help you take the first steps in designing your new playground markings, we have rounded up some of our tips below…
Consider the ages of your pupils
Age is a factor for all of our playground marking projects, with many of the schools we work with covering a wide range of abilities and ages. Therefore, our team have invested our time in creating markings which can provide equal opportunities for play for all pupils. We work closely with schools to create unique and engaging markings for all children.
Use colour and themed markings
Using bright colours and characters can help to keep a range of pupils engaged in their break and play times. At UniPlay we prioritise engaging markings which promote creative play and social skill development for pupils of all ages and abilities.
Create MUGAs
Multi-use games areas provide opportunities for children to learn about a range of different sports games and activities, therefore broadening the range of opportunities they have available to them to take part in sport. This is a key aspect of creating inclusive playgrounds and continually including pupils of all abilities in sports.
