PE and Sports Premium 2023-2024 Update
The UK government have announced that school’s PE and Sports Premium Funding would be continuing at the increased rate of £230 million during the next academic year.
These announcements come as fantastic news for UK schools, helping them to build on their resources to encourage physical activity throughout their pupil’s education. There have also been changes to the way in which the funding is allocated and the instalments that are made, with some schools receiving payments in November 2023.

PE and Sports Premium spending is monitored by Ofsted and so, it is important that schools consider how this budget is being spent to meet the requirements for all children’s physical activity levels. However, as playground markings can be used by pupils of all ages and are a key part of break and playtimes during the school day, they are an ideal way to spend PE and Sports Premium funding.
The government website explains that Sports Premium funding can be used for the following activities:
- Developing physical education
- Hiring specialists
- Training staff
- Purchasing equipment
- Promoting active lifestyles
- Supporting competitive sport
- Collaboration and partnerships
- Sustainability

PE and Sports Premium funding is often £16,000 per year, now being split into different payments depending on school type and size, in September, November and April. Uniplay were fabulous at our school, they took care to mark the playground in sections allowing pupils to continue using as much of the playground as possible during breaks. They accommodated our... need for the youngest pupils to have access until the very last minute.
